Cillian Murphy Joins Fight to End Fur Farming In Ireland

Ireland has yet to outlaw fur farms, and as the government prepare to draft a new Code of Practice for fur farmers, actor Cillian Murphy has joined the call for Ireland to ban fur farms entirely.

The film and TV star fired off a letter on behalf of PETA to Ireland’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine calling out fur farming for what it is, “a shameful, inhumane industry that is simply not compatible with animal welfare”.

His letter requests that Ireland be added “to the growing list of countries – including Austria, Northern Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom – that have banned the cruel practice of fur farming”.

Minks on Irish fur farms spend their lives in cramped wire cages. Denied the opportunity to run, swim and express any other natural behaviour, many of these wild animals go insane and begin to mutilate themselves. At the end of their short lives, they are killed and skinned for a gruesome fashion choice. As Cillian’s letter points out, a “complete ban is the only way to end the misery endured by thousands of animals every year on fur farms”.

Join Cillian, along with Anjelica Huston, Imelda May and thousands of others, by writing to the Irish government and asking them to make shameful fur farms a thing of the past in Ireland:
