Orcas don’t belong in captivity. Last week, we teamed up with LUSH for a vivid protest against SeaWorld’s unethical plans to open a park in Dubai.
Cruelty-free cosmetics company LUSH, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, joined PETA last week to help raise awareness of how animals suffer in captivity. Our event let the public know that it’s inhumane to confine orcas to a space that to them is the equivalent of a bathtub and to force them to repeat stupid tricks over and over again.
In the wild, majestic orcas swim 100 miles a day and live in tight-knit social groups. At facilities such as SeaWorld, they’re confined to barren concrete tanks and denied everything that is natural and important to them.
Given the multiple exposés of animal abuse at SeaWorld’s marine parks in the US, most notably in the documentary Blackfish, the last thing that the world needs is a SeaWorld park in Dubai.
More than 135,000 compassionate people from all over the world have contacted the government of Dubai urging it not to let SeaWorld set up shop in the United Arab Emirates.
