Animal News You Can Use: did you hear that?

Did you hear that? It was the sound of the coffin shutting on the battery cage last week, with mega grocers Kroger and Albertson’s (the country’s #1 and #2 largest traditional grocery chain operators) announcing policies to go 100{ae720e0b436026f867bfa0c31185c2252a138f27e85f5f152ec5acc1c10a8cc9} cage-free. And they weren’t alone: Delhaize—which owns the Food Lion and Hannaford grocery chains—also announced a cage-free policy, as did egg producer JS West.

You’ll never guess what Texas’ former ag commissioner said about ag-gag bills. Read all about it in a new piece of mine on Huffington Post last week.

Also last week, the Miami Herald covered HSUS’s Food Forward events, which help schools cut their meat use; and Syracuse Woman Magazine profiled Stefanie Heath, one of the leaders of HSUS’s meat reduction efforts.

Not sure how to stick to your own personal meat reduction plan? HSUS’s Kristie Middleton offers some thoughts in a new Napa Valley Register op-ed.

Finally, last week, the president of HSUS released his recent interview with the president of the United States. Seriously. Check out Wayne’s interview with President Obama, in which POTUS calls wildlife extinction “an unpardonable loss for humanity.”
