Animal News You Can Use: plant power is coming to town!

Another week, and more mega-retailers announced policies to end their use of eggs from caged hens. This week it was Fresh Market, Chik-fil-A, Aldi,A&W, Gemperle, and Ruby Tuesday.

Wondering what all this means in terms of labels in the marketplace? I offer some guidance in this new Vox story.

As Vox notes, the easiest way to save money on food is to opt for plant-based options. Good news: HSUS is on it. Check out this week’s New Haven Register feature on our work helping schools slash their meat use. As such progress unfolds, the plant-based industry is organizing like never before. Move over DC meat lobby: plant power is coming to town—check out the NY Times’ coverage of the first plant-based industry lobby group.

Finally, in the greatest irony of the week, the pork industry’s crying that the agency tasked with regulating it—USDA—is “in bed with HSUS.” If only.
