Animal News You Can Use: Get ready for a cage-free future!

Pretty soon, the only place you’ll be able to find a battery cage may be in a museum. In a major announcement this week, Rembrandt Foods (the nation’s third-biggest egg producer) proclaimed it’s abandoning cages in favor of a “cage-free future.”

You can read Wayne Pacelle’s thoughts on this progress on his blog. And to put the enormity of this announcement into context: In 2010, HSUS conducted an investigation of both Rembrandt Foods as well as a company called Rose Acre Farms (the second-largest egg producer), both of which defended cage confinement at the time. Now, just five years later, both of those companies have committed to switching to 100{ae720e0b436026f867bfa0c31185c2252a138f27e85f5f152ec5acc1c10a8cc9} cage-free production.

Don’t want chickens stuffed in cages? Please consider volunteering to stuff some envelopes for the historic Massachusetts ballot measure to end cage confinement. Whether you can make it to MA or want to volunteer from home, we want you!
